Dr. Patricia Simon

As a talented orthodontist near Uptown, Dr. Simon enjoys being able to combine her passion for art and science to build and restore smiles plagued by overcrowding, spacial gaps, and bite misalignment. Being able to enhance a person’s aesthetics while also improving their oral and overall health is what keeps her excited and eager to help individuals of all ages.

But before she became the face of Lakewood Orthodontics, PA, she was a young child who underwent orthodontia. The experience and care provided by her orthodontist helped to change her perception of herself and dentistry, ultimately leading her to pursue it as a career.

During college, she worked as an assistant in an orthodontist’s office. She obtained her bachelor’s degree at Saint Bonaventure University before enrolling at State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery. From there, she completed an orthodontic residency at Boston University as well as a Fellowship in Craniofacial and Dentofacial Abnormalities at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center.

For more than 25 years now, Dr. Simon has been practicing orthodontics. During the first five years of her career, she served as a faculty member at the UT Southwestern Medical Center in the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. Although she no longer teaches in an educational setting, she remains actively involved with many of the oral surgery residents.

While much of her time is spent transforming the smiles and health of her patients, she also pursues continuing education so that she can stay up to date on many of the latest advancements, techniques, and technologies in the field. This allows her to incorporate more innovative solutions into her practice.

She also corresponds and meets with other orthodontists and multidisciplinary dental specialists so that she can hone and expand her skills and knowledge when working alongside her patients.

When she’s not busy helping individuals embrace healthier smiles, she is actively involved with the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Board of Orthodontics, the American Dental Association, the Dallas County Dental Society, the Southwest Society of Orthodontists, and the Greater Dallas Association of Orthodontists.

She also enjoys spending much of her time with her husband, Kyle, restoring their historic home in the Peak Suburban Historic District of Dallas. You’ll often find the two of them traveling all over, trying out new and exciting things.

However, if you’d like to do a bit more research before taking that step, feel free to review the responses we’ve provided to some of the most frequently asked questions we’ve received from patients over the years!

What is the best way to find an orthodontist?

The best place to start is to search on Google for “orthodontist near me.” There, you will find many different orthodontists in your area to choose from. But before you simply select one and make an appointment, you’ll want to do a bit of research. This means visiting various websites and learning more about the orthodontist, their team, their available services, and other important components that you may find important.

The “Meet Your Orthodontist” page will give you deeper insight into the individual who will be taking care of your smile throughout treatment. You can review their educational background as well as any professional organizations and memberships they are a part of. For instance, Dr. Simon has professional affiliations with the American Association of Orthodontists, the American Board of Orthodontics, the Southwest Society of Orthodontists, the Greater Dallas Association of Orthodontists, and more. You’ll also find that her 25+ years of orthodontic experience makes her a true professional who is respected by her patients and peers.

What do you do if you can’t afford to see an orthodontist?

If you have dental insurance, make sure to use it, especially if it covers a portion of your orthodontic treatment. If you do not, there are alternative ways to pay for your care. The biggest mistake is assuming you’ll be unable to afford braces and allowing your dental problem to worsen. This will only lead to timelier and costlier treatment down the road.

At Lakewood Orthodontics, Dr. Simon welcomes flexible financing through Lending Club. You also have the option to choose our in-house financing with no interest. When opting to pursue a payment plan through our office, you can expect it to be based on how long you can expect your treatment to take.

Our talented team will be happy to discuss your options with you when you arrive for your consultation.

What level of education is required to be an orthodontist?

All dental professionals who wish to practice in the United States must receive a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) or a Doctor of Dental Sciences (DDS) from one of the 67 accredited dental schools in the U.S. To be eligible for dental school, they must have a bachelor’s degree with high grades in math and science.

Typically, dental school takes three years to complete and combines both classroom and hands-on instruction. After completing dental school, individuals have the option to pursue a specialization such as orthodontics. Should this be the desired path, completing an orthodontic residency program is required before one can apply for an orthodontist license.

Dr. Simon obtained her DDS from State University of New York at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine before going on to complete her orthodontic residency at Boston University.

How can I find the best place to get orthodontic work done?

Before selecting an orthodontic practice for you and your family, you’ll want to make sure that you establish some criteria for what you want. Some questions you might ask yourself include:

Once you establish what you want, you can begin to narrow down your search so that finding the right orthodontist for you and your family is easier than ever. You may also find it helpful to check various websites and online reviews to help you learn more about a particular practice.
